There's an interesting conference called Games for Health that might be of interest to this group. I attended their satellite event in Seattle a couple years ago. Unfortunately their big 2009 event just happened, in Boston.

Having spent a couple of years working in manufacturing I got to see both poor, wasteful, and costly processes as well as efficient and lean processes. When it can be done correctly I believe implementing Lean principles can improve the overall experience of any process. So, in believing that I will recommend a site and a book:

Lean Healthcare website:

Lean Healthcare book:

Lean Hospitals: Improving Quality, Patient Safety, and Employee Satisfaction by Marc Graban

There is an intertwined relationship between Lean and Theory of Constraints. I believe both can be beneficial although I've never participated in the implementation of ToC I'm familiar enough with it to feel that adding it as recommended resource would be a good thing to do.

ToC and Healthcare:

We All Fall Down: Goldratt's Theory of Constraints for Healthcare Systems by Julie Wright and Russ King

The TEDMED conference is essential watching. One of the videos was the subject of my recent post on health care data and making it accessible and usable for patients.
